Please click on RED RIBBON WEEK for more information. Red Ribbon Week is observed nationally as a time for schools and communities to come together in the fight against drug abuse. Red Ribbon Week began in 1995 as a way of honoring a DEA Agent who lost his life in the line of duty. Throughout the week, students and staff will receive a variety of materials including red ribbons, pins, pencils and educational packets. As last year, “Inflatable World” will be here with additional inflatable slides. Mark your calendars now for the “funtastic” event of the year, Hedenkamp’s annual HUSKY HOWL. All Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students will attend school from 8:45 – 12:05. Please remember that our first day back is a minimum day and all 1st-6th grade students will be dismissed at 1:55 p.m. Welcome back Hedenkamp Huskies! The Fall Quarter begins on Tuesday, October 7. This year, our students will be the judges. One of the highlights is our annual door decorating contest. ![]() Also, we are accepting donated bags of wrapped candy. Please let our PTA know if you are able to volunteer the night of Husky Howl. Tickets for food and games are 20 tickets for $15.00. Also, pre-sale tickets can be purchased before school on October 17 8:15 a.m., also in the courtyard. This is a great opportunity to support our Hedenkamp PTA. Practice the days of the week as you customize your own calendar with Starfall. This year, McTeacher’s night is Wednesday, October 29 from 5:00 p.m. Mark your calendars now for our annual McTeacher’s Night at McDonald’s. Our PTA still needs your donations of appropriate Halloween Candy. All who enter are welcome to wear their favorite Halloween Costume. Hedenkamp’s Husky Howl is Friday, October 24. Just a few days remaining until the event of the year. Don’t forget to wear RED on Friday, October 24. The highlight of the assembly was the landing of a DEA Helicopter right on our soccer field. In addition, the DEA trained dogs, Kilo and Riley, were here demonstrating their very special skills. Over 1100 Hedenkamp Huskies were able to meet members of the DEA, FBI and the Chula Vista Fire Department. Membership supports the production of new books, educational games, and movies.A million thanks to the Camarena Family for providing such an outstanding Red Starfall’s low-cost membership program expands the free content to include additional animated songs, mathematics activities, and reading. It is widely used in schools and homeschools. Its emphasis on phonemic awareness, systematic sequential phonics, and common sight words in conjunction with audiovisual interactivity is especially effective for teaching emergent readers, children of all ages with special needs or learning difficulties, as well as ELL (ESL) students. Starfall activities are research-based and align with state learning objectives for English language arts and mathematics. Due to the engaging content that “feels like play,” Starfall serves as an educational alternative to other entertainment choices for children. The program emphasizes exploration, play, and positive reinforcement-encouraging children to become confident and intrinsically motivated. Since then it has expanded to include standards in language arts and mathematics for preschool through fifth grade and above. Starfall was developed in the classroom by teachers and opened in August 2002 as a free public service to teach children to read. He was motivated to create a learning platform with untimed, multisensory interactive games that allow children to see, hear, and touch as they learn.
